Built in the second half of the 16th century by Giulio dei Medici, natural son of Alessandro de' Medici, in turn natural son of Lorenzo Duke of Urbino and an African slave, it has been his residence since 1563 when he was appointed by his uncle Cosimo I admiral of the Medici fleet at Porto Pisano (Livorno) and of the Order of the Knights of Santo Stefano in 1563.

The villa, which is attributed to Buontalenti or Francavilla, is arranged over two floors with kneeling gabled windows in pietra serena, in typical Florentine style. The plan is rectangular, with two turrets at the ends of the façade and a gabled rear façade with a staircase.

A large Medici coat of arms in marble, with the cross of the knights of Santo Stefano and the grand ducal crown, is located above the main door, which leads inside, consisting of a large hall with a fireplace in pietra serena, also with the Medici coat of arms, from which the other rooms branch off, with wooden or frescoed ceilings, and a double flight of stairs to the upper floor. Two rooms are vaulted, painted by an unknown Pisan painter in the 19th century.

Since the seventies of the twentieth century, the villa has been purchased by a family from La Spezia who undertook a complete restoration after decades of neglect.

The park that surrounds the villa for a good seven thousand square meters, has numerous centuries-old holm oaks.
